Rural Property Case Study

  • 5-bed rural village property
  • 2 adults, 3 children – very high electricity usage
  • Council tax band F and current EPC rating of D
  • 1990s build, oil heating
  • Cavity wall construction, 200mm or loft insulation
  • Tesla Model Y EV through salary sacrifice scheme
  • £250 per month UBILL spend, 6,000kwh electricity use
  • Nobody claims any benefits at the property

Loft insulation

Top up loft insulation to 300mm throughout, including tank and pipe lagging installation. All works completed with full 25-year insurance backed warranty.

Cost to the customer

£200-300 as they do not qualify for any funding schemes or grants.

Savings & benefits

Saving of £70-80 per annum in heat loss savings. Improve EPC by 3 SAP points raising it to a low C.

Solar PV & battery storage

Following virtual survey and full technical appraisal, recommended installation of 6kw of Solar PV with our recommendation of a Tesla Powerwall3 – 13.5kw battery storage to provide maximum savings possible against the electricity bill and usage and seamlessly integrate with the car charging requirements, and allow for maximum savings against motoring costs and home energy usage.

Cost to the customer

£13,500 – 14,200 fully installed, funded through increasing loan against the property through re-mortgage.

Savings & benefits

Reducing Electricity bill by over £120 per month on average, £1400 annually protecting against future inflation and giving energy security Also moved to a smart tariff to work in conjunction with the battery storage and their EV to add a further benefit of £25 per month on energy trading, and over £200 per month saving in motoring costs through off-peak fully managed charging schemes.

Air source heating

Upgrading the heating system with a 7-9kw ASHP system, integrating with the existing Oil central heating system, which will allow them to move away from reliance on Oil. Full integration with the Solar PV and Powerwall system, complimented with smart electricity tariffs for maximum savings and ROI.

Cost to the customer

£9,000-11,000 with the benefit of a £7500 government scheme grant towards the cost of the system, net costs like that of a boiler replacement.

Savings & benefits

Allowing the property to move away from reliance on Oil heating, a fully integrated ASHP will save a further £30-40 per month on average, which is automated through the battery and solar control management system to use surplus energy from the Solar production, and off peak energy costs. This will also ensure the property reaches a low B on the EPC report, with substantially reduced energy costs.

Future considerations & recommendations

We would always offer additional energy efficiency advise and make further recommendations in relation to energy preservation and efficiency for the property. The Tesla Powerwall system is a full energy management system which will allow for grid trading and Demand Sign Response (DSR) support to further enhance the savings and ROI.
